An assessment of a proposed single-house development in the village of Dromiskin, Co. Louth, was requested. The site was situated within the zone of constraint of a ‘souterrain possible’. It was not possible to pinpoint exactly where the souterrain lay. To address this it was recommended by the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government that a geophysical survey of the site should be undertaken. Modern disturbances throughout the site in the form of quarrying and dumping interfered with the results of the survey and it was felt prudent to continue with test-trenching. Nothing of archaeological interest was uncovered within the trenches and the assessment concluded that the proposed development area was not of archaeological potential.
