An assessment was carried out at No. 3 Wellington Quay, Drogheda. The site is located in the medieval town of Drogheda (SMR 24:41). Wellington Quay did not exist when Ravell’s map of Drogheda was drawn up in 1749. During this period the River Boyne was significantly wider and encroached on this area. This area of the town was largely built up and reclaimed at some stage in the late post-medieval period. This was evident in the trench excavated within this site. Made-up ground was visible throughout this trench and extended to a depth of 3.2m. A black sticky clay was visible in a portion of the trench at this depth and this may represent a layer of naturally deposited material from the River Boyne. No finds were recovered and no features of archaeological significance were identified.
