A pre-planning assessment was carried out in advance of a development at No. 57 Rope Walk, Drogheda. The site lies within the medieval town and thus within the zone of archaeological potential. Due to the presence of extant structures, access to the site for excavation purposes was restricted to the front carpark and rear yard. Three test-trenches were excavated as part of this assessment. In all trenches modern surfacing lay directly on top of natural subsoil. Nothing of archaeological significance was identified in any of the trenches. The absence of archaeological horizons in an area of obvious archaeological potential suggests that the development site has been scarped, probably to provide a level ground surface for the present standing building.
