The owner of the site received planning permission to extend and refurbish his licensed premises and was required to carry out an archaeological assessment prior to commencement of development. The site is located to the north-east of Millmount motte; Pitcher Hill was one of the two main north–south streets in the medieval town south of the river.

Three trenches were excavated by hand, as the site was too small to bring in a mechanical digger. No features of archaeological significance were exposed in these test-trenches. The only artefacts recovered dated to the late 18th–20th century.
