It is proposed to seek planning permission for the construction of four detached bungalows with associated access road, septic tank and percolation area at Carrickedmond, Dundalk. The site is located on a north-west-facing slope overlooking the Kilcurry River along the Dundalk–Forkhill road next to the county border with Armagh, within the zone of archaeological potential of a complex of prehistoric monuments comprising possible stone circles, alignments and cairns (SMR 4:100), no longer visible above ground. None of these monuments are within the proposed development area.
Five test-trenches were excavated within the proposed development area. Each trench was excavated to subsoil. Topsoil was no greater than 0.2m deep. No archaeological finds or features were recorded in these trenches.
