Five test-trenches were excavated within the area of proposed development on 17 August 2005. Monitoring of the demolition of an existing structure in the south-west corner of the site, adjacent to the suggested line of the medieval town wall, was also undertaken. The results of the test-trenching and monitoring revealed nothing of archaeological significance.
