An excavation took place in the townland of Tinyarr, Edgeworthstown, Co. Longford, in February 2005 on behalf of Longford County Council in advance of the construction of the N4 Edgesworthstown inner relief road. During testing of the route, several features of possible archaeological interest were identified and three of these sites were investigated under the current programme.
At Tinyarr 002, several small, severely truncated and highly disturbed features were identified. What can be said with some certainty is that the deposits identified were consistent with those typically associated with fulacht fiadh material, although agricultural activity had damaged these features to such an extent that nothing further could be determined.
At Tinnyarr 003, no features of archaeological significance were present, although the outline of the original pit identified during testing was located. Finally, at Tinyarr 004, a previously identified deposit of burnt material was excavated, although no further information on the nature of this feature or its archaeological significance was recovered.
No artefacts of archaeological significance were found during the excavation.
