Monitoring of groundworks of Phase 2 of the N55 Granard Main Street resurfacing scheme was carried out from 13 July to 19 August 2005. No archaeological features were discovered during the monitoring. A local person discovered a stray/uncontexted stone axe a number of years ago; the find was unrelated to the current monitoring of the resurfacing groundworks. The local person gave it to an ADS employee during the monitoring, who in turn took it straight to the National Museum of Ireland.

Eleven 1m-wide test-trenches were excavated by mini-digger in a gridiron pattern in a field at the rear of Main Street, just off Barrack Lane, from 7 to 18 April 2005. No archaeological features or artefacts were discovered during the testing.
