Riverine archaeological assessment took place as part of the proposed Limerick southern ring road (Phase II), Southern Contract. Assessment of a 200m stretch of river (Area S4) was undertaken and the survey area extended across the townland boundaries of Rossbrien, Rathurd and Rathbane South.
Systematic visual inspection of the riverbed and bankside areas was undertaken at river location S4. In addition, where practicable, a comprehensive magnetometer survey by hand-held metal detection was undertaken. No archaeologically significant material was revealed.
