Monitoring was undertaken at Main Street, Oola, Co. Limerick, in accordance with a condition of planning permission. The proposed development is directly adjacent to the local cemetery, dating to c. 1770 (SMR 33A:202). One large private dwelling and a commercial property, c. 40–50 years old, a small outbuilding and shed of similar date were demolished under supervision and a stone building with a barrel vault feature on the street front was recorded. On completion of this stage of the works, topsoil from the back garden was removed to subsoil. A south-east/north-west-running small stream was uncovered during the demolition phase, which was contained in a recently built concrete block channel. The topsoil excavated was a black silty sand, very rich in texture, and was obviously imported onto the site in recent times due to the large amount of modern finds within it.
