This extension to the monitoring licence for a proposed golf course at Rinn, Mohill, involved the further assessment of Site 17, described as a possible souterrain (it is located close to ringfort SMR 35:2). This feature appeared to extend 7.2m on an east–west axis and was visible as a raised linear bump. There is an opening at the eastern end measuring 0.9m wide defined by a substantial lintel supported by upright stones. The excavation of a trench across its width revealed a small cavity, with evidence of highly decayed timber supports. The cavity was 0.75m wide and 0.4m high, making it much too small for a souterrain. Considerable amounts of 19th-century crockery and bottle glass were found within and around the site, supporting a late date for its construction. It was clearly not a drain but may have been some sort of constructed animal burrow.
