The proposed development is to consist of two dwelling houses, accesses and septic tanks/percolation areas. The sites are located to the north-east of a univallate hillfort located on a hilltop with commanding views of Lough Melvin. The fosse of the hillfort is actually a tertiary county road, with the accesses of both sites opening onto this road. Despite the proximity of the proposed development sites to such a major archaeological monument, no evidence of archaeological features or finds was revealed during the course of the topsoil-stripping. As in many places in north Leitrim, the topsoil is very thin, consisting of 0.1–0.15m of stony grey/brown silty clay with a few small to medium stones and some early modern finds. The topsoil overlay the natural subsoil, a stony and gritty compact grey clay.
