The proposed development site is located on the outskirts of Ballinamore, Co. Leitrim. The development will include the construction of 25 houses, access and related services. A 20m buffer zone was established around an enclosure. The entire site was topsoil-stripped in 2004, revealing nine potential features (Excavations 2004, No. 951). These were either fully excavated or further assessed and determined to be non-archaeological under an extension to the licence. Features 1 to 8 were fully excavated and included a gully, several small to medium shallow pits and a small hearth. No finds, datable or otherwise, were associated with any of the features. Feature 9 was determined to be an early modern ditch. A few pieces of struck chert were revealed at the interface between the topsoil and the subsoil in the vicinity of the excavated features but these appear to be debitage and non-diagnostic. Samples have been taken for further analysis and possible 14C dating.
