The site of the proposed development in Ballynamony townland, Co. Leitrim, is just outside and north of Carrick-on-Shannon. A ringfort is partially located within the site and in an adjacent field to the north-east. The ringfort’s fosse is partially truncated by the existing field boundary, with a small portion located within the site of the proposed development. The fosse itself is barely visible, being denoted by a slight change in vegetation. A minimum 20m buffer zone will be maintained between the edge of the monument and the edge of the proposed development. Seven test-trenches were excavated across the site of the proposed development. All measured 1m wide and were excavated to a depth of between 0.3m and 0.4m. They were between 20m and 240m long. No evidence of archaeological activity was revealed.
