Testing Area 6 of the M7 Portlaoise–Castletown/M8 Portlaoise–Cullahill motorway scheme was identified as an area of archaeological potential due to its location next to a bog in the townland of Trumra. Due to access issues, only a small portion of the area was available for testing. The assessment of Contract 3, Testing Area 6, involved the mechanical excavation of 28 test-trenches. These had a combined length of 1134.95m, resulting in a total excavated area of 2440.14m2, or c. 0.98% of the total area (248,414m2). This corresponds to 11.29% of the tested area (i.e. Fields 283–5). No archaeological features were recorded in the course of the assessment of Testing Area 6. The only recorded feature was a field boundary ditch in Field 283, depicted on early-edition OS maps.
