A burnt mound was identified along the route of the proposed N9/N10 Kilcullen–Waterford scheme: Contract 3, Prumplestown to Powerstown, to measure c. 18m by 17m. The mound consisted of two layers of material. The upper layer measured 0.3m deep and consisted of topsoil mixed with charcoal and heat-shattered stone. The lower layer was less disturbed, black, well-compacted, silty clay with frequent heat-shattered stone and charcoal inclusions.
