The development site is located on the east side of High Street, Kilkenny. It lies within the medieval city. Planning was granted to refurbish a protected structure on the site and erect a three-storey extension to the rear. A proposed raft foundation required that the ground be disturbed to a maximum depth of 0.7m. One test-trench was opened to a maximum depth of 0.7m, by 1m wide, north-east/south-west across the centre of the development site. The stratigraphy of the trench consisted of a rubble fill to a depth of c. 0.7m. The fill material comprised mortar, red brick, old service pipes, etc., and dated to the 19th/20th centuries. No finds or features of an archaeological nature were noted.
