Excavation of a burnt-mound feature revealed during monitoring of topsoil-stripping in August 2005 was undertaken in Gorteen Quarry, Co. Kilkenny. Monitoring in the area has been ongoing since 2003.
The feature lies to the west of the proposed development area, adjacent to a field boundary that has truncated the mound along its northern edge. The spread of burnt material was 8m east–west by 2.1m, the maximum depth being 0.13m, and no sub-mound features were revealed. No finds were recovered from the site.
