An assessment including testing was carried out at a pre-development site in Maynooth, Co. Kildare, in December 2005. Planning permission is being sought for the refurbishment and renovation of a two-storey building fronting onto Main Street and the construction of a licensed premises over two floors and a basement area. The construction of a carpark to the rear of the licensed premises is also proposed. Two trenches were excavated within the footprint of the proposed development. Structural foundations and demolition rubble associated with the demolished buildings on the site were noted in the trenches. A 19th-century well was present as well as a deposit of material with a number of medieval sherds in the middle of the site.
