Test excavations were carried out in February 2005 as part of an impact assessment relating to a planning application to construct a housing development at Dromin, Listowel. Ten test-trenches were excavated by a mechanical digger using a 1.5m-wide flat ditching bucket on the footprint of the houses and associated access roads. Natural subsoil was reached beneath an average 0.35m of dark-brown silty loam topsoil. The subsoil was a mottled mid-yellow/orange sandy clay with moderate small to medium sub-angular and sub-rounded sandstones throughout. No artefacts or deposits were encountered in any of the trenches.
