Reinstatement works were carried out to a ringfort at Church Road, Ballybunnion. The ringfort had been negatively impacted on and partially covered by mounds of topsoil during unsupervised development works at a nearby caravan park. A strategy was devised to resolve the issue between the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government, the County Archaeologist and Eachtra.
The introduced dumped soil was removed under supervision and the monument was assessed. Sections of the ringfort bank had been damaged along the north-west area. The damaged earthen banks were reinstated as far as possible to their original state and the monument was surveyed. The ringfort was also fenced off for future preservation.
