The table opposite outlines the complete suite of works (archaeological testing, metal detector survey, architectural survey and underwater survey) carried out on the N6 Galway–Ballinasloe road scheme in 2005. The proposed scheme will be a dual carriageway, 56km in length, extending from the east side of Galway city, at Doughiska, to the east side of Ballinasloe, at Beagh Brabazon, in Co. Roscommon. All sites are in County Galway, apart from those of Pollboy and Tulrush, which straddle both counties.
Testing works were carried out by Valerie J. Keeley Ltd, Headland Archaeology Ltd, CRDS Ltd and Eachtra Archaeological Projects. Surveys were carried out by Archaeological Surveys (UK), and The Moore Group.
All work was commissioned by Galway County Council National Roads Design Office and sponsored by the National Roads Authority.
