Machine testing was undertaken as part of Contract 1 of the N6 Galway–Ballinasloe road scheme (Phase 1 testing) to ascertain the significance and extent of a possible burnt mound, identified by ArchaeoPhysica during the geophysical survey, that is to be directly impacted on by the construction of the road. No archaeological features were revealed on the site during the testing. No further work is proposed at the site.
The work was commissioned by the Galway County Council National Roads Design Office and sponsored by the National Roads Authority. RPS-MCOS Ltd acted as principal consultants for the scheme.
