This was interpreted as the plough-truncated remains of a burnt mound. The presence of plough furrows extending north–south across the site could indicate that the spread had been ploughed out. No ancillary features were discovered at the site and no datable finds were found in direct association with the burnt spread.
The work was commissioned by the Galway County Council National Roads Design Office and sponsored by the National Roads Authority.
