In August 2005 an underwater archaeological impact assessment (AIA) was undertaken relating to a proposal to construct Phase 2 of the Galway Harbour Enterprise Park. The AIA included a dive survey, which was based on the results of a geophysical survey undertaken by Aquafact in June 2005. The seabed varied from a very soft silt to sand. Small stones were noted in places. No evidence of archaeological stratification, deposits or objects was recorded. However, given the nature of the marine sediment, there is a strong potential for archaeological material to lie undiscovered buried in the sediment. Monitoring of all piling and dredging operations was recommended.
