Monitoring for BGE Ltd was carried out along the proposed feeder and distribution mains for Galway city. Initial monitoring work outside the zone of archaeological potential for Galway was carried out by Graham Hull and Bernice Molloy on behalf of Margaret Gowen & Co. Ltd. This licence was subsequently transferred to the author, who monitored excavation works within the urban medieval precincts of the city. Works were carried out along the Dublin road, Lough Atalia road, along Docks road, the Spanish Arch and through the southern part of Eyre Square. Much of the work was carried out in conjunction with the Eyre Square Enhancement scheme and the Galway City Broadband scheme (see Excavations 2003, No. 714, 03E0460; No. 718, 03E0601; No. 719, 03E0677).
No works were carried out inside the medieval walls of the city.
