This site had previously been highlighted as an area of higher archaeological potential, based on the results of geophysical survey. Test-trenching identified one previously unidentified archaeological area as the plough-truncated remains of a burnt mound. The work was commissioned by Galway County Council National Roads Design Office and sponsored by the National Roads Authority.
