Testing was undertaken in March 2005 in advance of a proposed commercial and residential development in the townland of Doughiska, on the outskirts of Galway city. Eleven trenches were excavated in the course of testing, nine mechanically and two manually. The testing uncovered sod and topsoil overlying either bedrock or a natural grey sandy silt. A roadway, SMR 82:44, will not be directly impacted on by the development and the testing indicated that the proposed development will not impact on any archaeological features.
