This site was identified during centre-line testing as a penannular-shaped ditch with associated charcoal-filled pit, possibly representing the remains of a prehistoric settlement site. The penannular-shaped feature measured 4.3m (north–south) by 4.7m and had internal dimensions of 2.9m (north–south) by 2.8m. An entrance gap, c. 1m in width, was located in the southern side of the feature. The thickness/width of the feature varied from 1.1m by the eastern terminal to 1.25m in the north-west.
The work was commissioned by Galway County Council National Roads Design Office and sponsored by the National Roads Authority.
