Phase 1 testing here confirmed the presence of an enclosure. An area measuring 50m by 40m was stripped of topsoil by machine. A preliminary investigation of the enclosure and two associated features indicated a significant depth to the enclosure ditch, as well as the potential for recovering stratified archaeological finds and environmental data. The partial survival of an internal bank and the recognition of other discrete and linear features from both inside and outside the enclosure suggest that Site 2.25 is of high archaeological importance. No archaeological finds or datable evidence was recovered from this phase of testing.

The work was commissioned by Galway County Council National Roads Design Office and sponsored by the National Roads Authority.
