Machine testing was undertaken as part of Contract 1 of the N6 Galway–Ballinasloe road scheme (Phase 1 testing). Testing was primarily concerned with the possible remains of a structure, pits and ditches that were highlighted by a geophysical survey carried out in the area by ArchaeoPhysica. No material of an archaeological nature was discovered during testing. No further work is proposed at the site.
Work was commissioned by Galway County Council National Roads Design Office and sponsored by the National Roads Authority. RPS-MCOS Ltd acted as principal consultants for the scheme.
