Testing took place at Poppintree, Co. Dublin, in advance of a residential development. Twenty trenches were excavated across the proposed development site. Four areas of archaeological potential were identified. Prehistoric activity was identified in Areas 1 and 2. A pit and seven post-holes were identified in Area 1. Four pits were identified in Area 2. Possible medieval activity was identified in the remaining two areas in the form of linear ditches and a number of large pits. Four derelict field boundaries were also identified throughout the development area; two of these were visible on the first-edition OS map, whilst the remainder ran parallel to the existing field boundaries. Archaeological features and deposits were identified and subsequently excavated in three of the four areas (see No. 518, Excavations 2005).
