Testing was undertaken for a proposed house at Brownstown, Newcastle, Co. Dublin, in April 2005. The site is located immediately west of the ecclesiastical enclosure and graveyard of Loughtown Lower (SMR 21:1). Little is known about the monument, which is likely to date from the medieval period. A holy well is located nearby, although this has now fallen into disuse. Two trenches were excavated. No features of archaeological significance were noted, with the possible exception of an undated shallow ditch or field drain.
