The proposed development area was located outside the zone of archaeological constraint for Dublin city (SMR 18:20). A desk-based assessment was undertaken in advance of proposed development, followed by test-trenching. It was only possible to excavate three small trenches to a depth of c. 2m. Below modern deposits of building debris, etc., a green-hued clay deposit was encountered. This deposit could have been the natural subsoil or may have been the buried ploughsoil of pre-urban development.
