Site clearance works were monitored with the objective of recording the development of property plots and the 18th-century gardens picked up by an assessment of the same site by Melanie McQuade and Georgina Scally (Excavations 2003, No. 565, 03E1242). Monitoring began in December 2004 and continued intermittently until May 2005. Site clearance re-exposed some features identified in the assessment, including 19th-century wall foundations, a drain and cobbled surface as well as garden soils and other deposits. It was found that the plots had changed little since their construction in the late 18th or early 19th centuries. No activity earlier than the late 18th century was evident, aside from a few stray sherds of 17th-century pottery.
