The site location at the junction of Francis Street and Hanover Lane lies in a zone of archaeological potential within the early historical area of Dublin but outside and south-west of the medieval walled town, within the Liberty of St Sepulchre. There was no evidence for any significant archaeological features in the trenches opened. The basements of the two extant houses, Nos 55 and 56, were initially filled with rubble and the fragmentary remains of their red-brick and flag floor were laid on the compact natural clay. Any possible archaeological features may have been removed during excavation for the basements. The remains of two post-medieval wooden water barrels were located to the rear of the houses and one post-medieval rubbish pit.
