An assessment was carried out in advance of the planned M50 upgrade. Testing Areas 13–14 were located in the townland of Diswellstown. The testing methodology, where possible, generally consisted of mechanically excavating 2.3m-wide test-trenches along the centre of the testing area with offsets across the site every 15m. A geophysical survey of Testing Area 13 was undertaken prior to the excavation of any test-trenches due to its location near SMR 17:10 (habitation site). Gas mains and a few small anomalies were detected as a result. These anomalies turned out to be areas of disturbance which contained fragments of metal, etc., which were probably deposited on this site following construction works within the gas pipeline corridor. Natural subsoil was exposed in Testing Area 14 and no features were identified. The combined area of test-trenches excavated in Testing Area 13 was 245.7m2 and the combined area of test-trenches excavated in Testing Area 14 was 372m2.
No features of archaeological significance were identified and no finds recovered.
