Planning permission has been granted for the refurbishment of the Martello tower, including associated services and external stairwell, at Bartra Rock, Dalkey, Co. Dublin. Testing was carried out along the line of the proposed external stairwell and the line of services into the tower. No features or artefacts of archaeological interest were noted in either of the test-trenches. Due to access issues and time constraints, testing was not carried out in the interior basement level of the tower, where the bathroom and bedrooms are to be constructed.
