In August 2005 and in advance of further development at Fullerton Road, Rathfriland, and Crieve Road, Newry, an evaluation was undertaken of the barn floor and yard associated with Beechcroft farm, which had previously occupied the site. The archaeological intervention identified several features that were modern. Previous excavation had been carried out by David Sneddon at this site (Excavations 2003, No. 451, AE/03/138).
The evaluation revealed a number of negative features cut into the sandy subsoil beneath the concrete barn and yard floors. Into this and a stone-levelling layer three wooden posts had been erected, a drainage sump dug and the foundation trench excavated for a metal tank. No finds were associated with these features.
