A test excavation was conducted at this site in advance of the proposed N15 Ballybofey–Stranorlar bypass. Two raised earthen platforms in what was an otherwise wet and marshy field were identified in the EIS as Areas of Archaeological Potential 38 and 39. Both platforms measured c. 30m in diameter and were at most 0.3m above the surrounding ground level.
Seven trenches were excavated across the site using a mechanical excavator fitted with a toothless bucket. The two mounds were discovered to be natural rises in the landscape, similar to those in the surrounding area. The remains of a field boundary, which is marked on the second-edition OS map, were uncovered, along with stone-filled drains. Nothing of archaeological significance was discovered in the course of this excavation.
