Test excavation was carried out on the south side of Main Street, Youghal, to establish the archaeological potential of a development site. The site is at the rear of a street-fronting property within the medieval town (SMR 67:29). The development was a small extension in an area where a previous building had stood. Test-trenching was undertaken to the level of new foundations and uncovered layers of modern fill. Archaeological levels below this may remain in situ but are unaffected by the present development.
