Monitoring of this large greenfield site at Castlejayne, Poulacurry South, Glanmire, has been ongoing. The final phase of the proposed housing development is to be located in the north-east quadrant of the site, part of which falls within the zone of archaeological potential for a mound, of which there is no visible trace. Extensive topsoil-stripping in the past, prior to development, may have destroyed any evidence of the mound. Weed growth on the remaining subsoil was sparse and there was no evidence of archaeological features.
Monitoring of the groundworks associated with the final phase of development took place intermittently between August 2004 and May 2005. The remaining subsoils on the site were shallow and bedrock was exposed over much of the development. There were no finds or features of an archaeological nature observed during the monitoring.
