Test excavation was carried out to establish the existence of a millrace within the Lee Maltings complex of industrial buildings. These buildings were formally the site of a flourmill and were bought in 1803 by Beamish & Crawford for malting. The millrace was located on maps of the complex and the test excavation established that it remained in situ below the modern carpark.
