The site is located a short distance outside the zone of archaeological potential for the historical city of Cork (SMR 74:122). It is north-west of the medieval city. Three test-trenches were machine-excavated on the proposed development site. All were c. 1m wide and were excavated to a maximum depth of c. 0.8m. Stratigraphy in the trenches was found to comprise a brown silty clay overlaying a pink/orange silty clay. No finds or features of archaeological significance were noted.
