Three test-trenches were machine-excavated on the proposed development site, which lies just outside the south side of the medieval city of Cork. All trenches were c. 1m wide and were excavated to a depth of c. 2m. Stratigraphy in the trenches was found to comprise a concrete base directly overlying a mix of loose rubble fill containing mortar, some slate and stone. No evidence of houses, walls or habitation levels was found.
