Three test-trenches were opened on a site at Aghada, Midleton, which is in the environs of a Roman Catholic church. Topsoil was removed to a depth of 0.5–0.6m in the trenches. This overlay orange/brown natural subsoil. A sewage pipe runs along the line of the proposed roadway on the site, entering the site from the road to the west. This pipe was exposed in the western end of one trench and the trench was abandoned at that point. The remainder of the site has been disturbed in the past by the construction of a sewage trench and the erection of the street-fronting structures and a shed to the rear of the site. No features or finds of archaeological significance were noted in the course of the testing.
