Test-trenching as part of a wider assessment was carried out to the rear of No. 67 O’Connell Street, Ennis, in advance of an extension to that property. Three trenches (all 2m in length by 1m) were dug within the footprint of the proposed structure using a small track machine with flat-edged bucket. All trenches revealed a stratigraphy of a fill layer, which rested directly on the natural parent material. Despite the fact that this site lay within the zone of archaeological potential for the historic town of Ennis, nothing archaeological in nature was recovered.
