Testing was carried out at Main Street, Cavan, in October 2005. The proposed development includes the alteration and extension of No. 1 Main Street, a protected structure, and the construction of apartments to the rear of the building. The development plans include the construction of an underground carpark and all associated ancillary works. Two buildings to either side of No. 1 Main Street are also proposed for alteration and extension. Five east–west-oriented trenches were excavated within the footprint of the proposed development. Structural remnants, demolition rubble and outhouses associated with St Clare’s School were found in the trenches.
