Testing was carried out at this site on the outskirts of Butlersbridge in September 2004 (Excavations 2004, No. 103), prior to the construction of four dwelling houses. Planning permission, subsequently granted, required monitoring of ground disturbance at the back (i.e. east end), as this is the part of the site located closest to a ringfort (SMR 15:56) at the top of the slope lying in Kilnaglare Upper townland.
The front portion of the site had already been reduced in terraces in preparation for the house foundations. The back of the site was terraced with a gentler slope. Soil-stripping in advance of the terracing was monitored. A field drain was exposed running diagonally across the stripped area. This was a square-profiled channel cut into the subsoil. It was 0.4m square in section and was filled with loose stone. No other features were exposed during monitoring.
