Two pits, one of which showed evidence for burning in situ and the other containing moderate charcoal inclusions in its fill, were identified close to the field boundary at the old Carlow–Leighlinstown road during Contract 3 testing on the N9/N10 Kilcullen to Waterford road scheme. A number of possible destroyed field boundaries/drainage ditches and numerous cultivation furrows were also noted in the vicinity of these features. Some of these ditches could be related to features depicted on the first-edition OS map of the area.
